First Update - 8/22/24
We've been hard at work building upon and expanding Lost In Static since the Game Jam version released at the beginning of August.
There are some new additions, changes, and bug fixes listed below. We will be continuing to improve things, adding new features and tweaking others to better reflect our initial vision with Lost In Static.
Additions:
- Some minor audio/visual additions have been implemented.
- Implemented a TV Remote controller with several TVs scattered around the map.
- Players may teleport to random TVs when interacting with them.
Changes:
- The environment is now darker / more atmospheric.
- Monster movement speed has been slightly tweaked.
Bug Fixes:
- Pitfalls/falling into holes now actually send players to a lose screen.
- Some minor typo/grammatical fixes.
- Some collider issues have been fixed.
- Minor bug fixes.
Known Issues:
- Texture popping / Missing lighting
Some lights may "pop" in and out, or outright refuse to light some surfaces, depending on the player's perspective. As we continue to develop LOS, we'll be using alternative methods for lighting. That said, some users have reported that they like this behavior. We will likely try to move forward with fixing the issue regardless, unless requested by popular demand.
- TV Teleport flash
When using a TV to teleport between locations, players may notice a brief flash of pure white before seeing the intended static effect during the teleport transition. This is a direct result of the method used to create the feature, and will be addressed/fixed.
Developer Note:
LOS is still in its early stages, and we're confident that it can become something great.
Things like menus, story, mechanics, etc. will all be developed in the very near future to much better reflect a genuine game and horror experience closer to our intended vision.
Our priorities at the moment are to develop a better AI with dynamic behaviors, deepen the story through environmental storytelling along with additional notes that tie it together, audio/visual settings, and an overall more fluid gameplay experience.
As the original version was part of a Game Jam, we had to make some decisions that lacked much of what our original vision encompassed. Moving forward with development, we'll be working hard to bring our ideas to life for players to enjoy.
We appreciate any feedback that players give us, and would like to thank everyone who played our original version!
